Business Description

We have a client who has developed from scratch an mobile app designed to compete with TikTok. The app was designed for use with Apple’s IOS, but can easily be adapted for Android.

Our client’s app competes with TikTok with many features and for the user the app also minimizes operational costs by taking the advantage of cloud platform i.e. AWS which is reliable, scalable and less expensive. The apps database is flexible and scalable to adopt large volumes of data.

The app is designed for high algorithmic video opening performance, which includes the number of videos to be pushed to the device at once by filtering videos considering categories, user interests…etc. and with better video compression.

Our client’s app features maximum dependency on each local device i.e., mobile phone, and reduces frequent interactions with a server. This eventually increases the performance and reduces bandwidth cost. It also optimizes the number of API’s to make sure that the data is readily available in local devices for better performance. The app offers a platform to create fun videos that users can watch and share with friends and family. This is a short video maker app where users get a chance to gain popularity, and numerous followers.

The app was developed keeping in mind the utilization of the full power of local device. The algorithm developed on the EC2 server will feed a local device with multiple videos along with other required information like user profile and video information, etc. which results in smooth stream of video processing without buffering. This is done through the maximum utilization of local devices by reducing the frequent API calls to the EC2 server which resides in AWS cloud, the cost on AWS is reduced.

The app utilizes the Dynamo database which is flexible and highly scalable and can hold virtually any amount of big data.

As our client’s app is cloud based, it reduces the operational costs by taking the cloud architecture advantages like scalability, reliability and less cost. Further performance is increased by using HD 264 video compression.2

The app has been developed in Swift for the Apple IOS mobile iPhone and is integrated with 22 API calls developed on JAVA language on EC2 server

Our client’s app has been designed in USA and Canada by two managing members, one operational manager in India. The app was created from scratch with a very small percentage, if any, of open-source code integration.

Below are listed the open source libraries used in the Application:

1. IQKeyboardManagerSwift – For keyboard management like showing/hiding keyboard and updating the UI accordingly
2. TransitionButton – For all Submit button animations
3. SwiftyCam – To capture the video from camera while posting
4. SDWebImage – To load image asynchronously and provide cache support
5. PhoneNumberKit – To handle country code with mobile number
